The Tragic Facts:

  • Since 1973, 98,622 lives ended by abortion in the state of Montana (according to the 2008 statistics).*
  • 272 babies were aborted in the Flathead Valley in 2008.
  • 2,125 babies lives were ended by abortion in Montana in 2008.* Approximately 1 in 7 babies in Montana are aborted (nationally the figure is 1 in 4).
  • Flathead County ranked 3rd in the state (up from 4th in 2007) behind Missoula (2nd) and Yellowstone (1st) counties in the number of abortions performed in 2008.
  • The number of abortions in Montana decreased by 113 from 2007 to 2008. In Flathead County, the numbers have increased by 69 since 2007. The number of abortions in the county were 206 in '07, 184 in '06, 276 in '05 and 331 in '04.
  • By conservative estimates, there have been more than 49.5 million abortions in the United States since the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. What do you think these individuals may have been able to contribute to society if they had been allowed to live?
  • The current health care bill before the US Congress includes provisions for "End of Life Counseling" (whatever that is) and funding of abortions. We also currently have a lawsuit before the Montana Supreme Court allowing for assisted suicide.
  • The leading cause of death among African-Americans is not heart disease or HIV, but abortion.
  • * Note: The 2008 statistics are usually not available on the web until early February. These figures were obtained from officials of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
